EBOSS® Battery Safety Statement
A clear overview of EBOSS battery chemistry, built-in safety measures, and compliance context.
Summary
ANA’s EBOSS® systems are built with safety-first battery technology and UL-listed/recognized electrical control, power, and safety components. EBOSS uses Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO) lithium-ion chemistry, which is significantly less energy-dense than many traditional chemistries—helping reduce the likelihood of fire propagation during thermal runaway.
EBOSS® Battery Safety Design
UL-listed and recognized components
EBOSS® battery safety includes UL-listed and UL-recognized electrical control, power, and safety components to support safe operation in real-world environments.
Why LTO chemistry matters
EBOSS® uses a lithium-ion chemistry called Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO). Compared with higher energy-density chemistries, LTO’s lower energy density helps significantly lower the chance of fire propagation during thermal runaway.
Battery cells used in EBOSS®
For EBOSS battery safety, ANA uses Toshiba LTO batteries and references safety performance testing such as nail penetration, crush, and overcharge tests.
Energy Storage System Compliance Context (UL 9540 / IFC 2021)
UL 9540 is a requirement for Energy Storage Systems (ESS) released in 2020, and IFC 2021 Section 1200 states ESS systems must comply and be certified to UL 9540.
For ESS products containing lithium-ion technologies, IFC 2021 Section 1207.1.1 specifies that systems up to 20 kWh of energy capacity are exempt from UL 9540 in both mobile and stationary applications.
ANA EBOSS™ (EBOSS70-40, EBOSS70-45) contains 20 kWh and is therefore within the exemption threshold, while still being field evaluated and tested for UL 9540 compliance.
